Annual generation per kWp installed, highest first. UK average across areas: 976 kWh per kWp.
Questions about local solar yield
How much electricity does solar generate in the UK?
A typical south-facing commercial roof at a 30 degree pitch generates roughly 765 to 1,150 kWh per kWp each year, depending on location. The south coast is highest, northern Scotland and Shetland lowest.
Where does the postcode data come from?
Figures are from the European Commission's PVGIS 5.3 tool (SARAH3 satellite data, 2005 to 2023), sampled at the centre of each UK postcode area for a south-facing 30 degree array with 14% system losses.
Is this an accurate figure for my building?
No. It is an indicative area average. Roof orientation, pitch, shading, structure and your usage profile change the real figure, which is why we follow up with a free site-specific feasibility review.
Is solar worth it in Scotland or the north of England?
Often yes. Yields are lower than the south, but commercial sites with high daytime use still offset expensive grid electricity. The local figure is shown above so you can compare.
Methodology: PVGIS 5.3 (European Commission Joint Research Centre), SARAH3 radiation data, crystalline silicon, 30 degree tilt, south facing, 14% losses, sampled at each postcode area centre.
